Emmanuelle Bousquet, Fine Art Photographer
Born into a family of fashion designers in 1979, Emmanuelle Bousquet received her first camera from her grandmother at the age of 10. This decisive gesture guided her creative path. As a young photographer, she captured self-portraits wearing clothes and shoes from her mother's wardrobe. This exploration of self-portraiture continued throughout her adolescence, a period marked by change, accentuated by a difficult family context with her parents' divorce. After studying journalism and attending the SPEOS photography school, she continued to photographically explore her relationship with those around her, creating a series of portraits of the women closest to her: her mother, grandmother, sister and herself, continuing her introspective work.
At the age of 25, her encounter with photographer Antoine d'Agata (Magnum agency) prompted her to deepen her research into self-portraiture and nudity. This encounter gave rise to the series "Troubles" (2004-2006), in which she depicts her naked body in motion, thus expressing her thoughts at that moment. The body became a tool for reflecting her thoughts. This encounter with Antoine d'Agata led Emmanuelle Bousquet to explore light: soft, veiled, diaphanous, avoiding crudeness or clinicality, highlighting the naked body in a more poetic than sexualized way, contrary to Agata's vision. This exploration of the body, light, and movement has now become a common thread in Emmanuelle Bousquet's work.
