Emmanuelle Bousquet, Fine Art Photographer
Born into a family of fashion designers in 1979, Emmanuelle Bousquet received her first camera from her grandmother at the age of 10. This decisive gesture guided her creative path. As a young photographer, she captured self-portraits wearing clothes and shoes from her mother's wardrobe. This exploration of self-portraiture continued throughout her adolescence, a period marked by change, accentuated by a difficult family context with her parents' divorce. After studying journalism and attending the SPEOS photography school, she continued to photographically explore her relationship with those around her, creating a series of portraits of the women closest to her: her mother, grandmother, sister and herself, continuing her introspective work.
At the age of 25, her encounter with photographer Antoine d'Agata (Magnum agency) prompted her to pursue her research into self-portraiture and nudity. This encounter gave rise to the "Troubles" series (2004-2006), in which she stages her naked body in movement, expressing her thoughts of the moment. The body becomes the tool reflecting her thoughts. Emmanuelle Bousquet's encounter with Antoine d'Agata is reflected in her work with light: subdued, veiled, diaphanous, avoiding crudity or the clinical dimension, highlighting the naked body in a way that is more poetic than sexualized, unlike Agata's vision. This exploration of the body, light and movement has become a common thread running through Emmanuelle Bousquet's work.
